reclaimed Welsh slate, Reclaimed scorched Oak, reclaimed and stained pine. This wall piece is made with reclaimed materials found locally. Like a lot of materials that have survived a long time and maybe might look worn out, I love discovering their beauty and importance and giving them back their life. Impenetrable?

reclaimed oak, reclaimed Welsh Slate, reclaimed Pine. Environmentally friendly stain and scorched oak. This wall piece has been made with local materials. Giving unwanted materials a new life is so important to me, especially when there is so much beauty in them waiting to be discovered.

Reclaimed wildfire wood (California), reclaimed pine (Wales), 36”x24”, 2021.
Evidence shows that the Antarctic ice sheets are becoming increasingly unstable, and that the Greenland ice sheets could collapse entirely if global temperatures rise by 1.5C – which could happen as soon as 2030 if current trends persist. With this in mind I produced this piece from wood that I salvaged from the Californian wildfires – another direct effect of climate change. The piece has been sculpted to balance precariously, a narrative that is a literal representation of life as we know it. The heart on top also balances as if it can fall at any moment. The heart that represents our love for life also represents the knowledge we hold for what we need to do to reverse these changes. The materials used are all salvaged from the locality of Californian burn areas and near my studio in North Wales.

2021, 82x27cm, reclaimed ancient oak beam, reclaimed oak, reclaimed steel
Glen Farrelly: The main material for this piece is an old oak beam that I found buried , next to my house in a farmers field. It was completely submerged in soil, eaten by wood munchers and rot had started to set in. Being oak it has a high resilience and I could quickly see the potential it had to become an object to show life. This unwanted house beam, despite being thrown out ,was perfect to show hope. Hope that we can act against the devastating effects of climate change. We may be on the brink of destruction but much like the seeds within we can grow strong but only if we start to nurture what we have.

Despair. Created from the knotted crown of an ancient boundary oak, this piece was sourced locally to the artist in Dorset, left over after the tree was milled many years ago. Wanting to create a sculpture that conveys the utter hopelessness we may find ourselves in, the state of mind caused by circumstances that seem too much to cope with. Also the total loss of hope which at times can drive us on to make furious efforts. Even in the depths of deep despair often great courage and strength can be found. This unique sculpture is hand finished using a blend of natural oils and waxes allowing this piece to live on in the great outdoors if so desired.
Preservation and aftercare is of great importance and always offered.

Created using a single ring of burred oak, cut from an ancient tree in the heart of Dorset. This unique piece has been a labour of love created over a number of years. Working from A small hole in the centre and turning daily to create the abstract fluid forms. Revolver embraces the awkwardness of natural growth, Multiple burred pieces are intrinsically linked with a subtle internal spiral. Finished using a blend of natural waxes and oils allowing the piece to live on in the great outdoors if so desired.

The Gaslighter’s Comeuppance material: Holly size: 1.6m
“This sculpture offers a statement about the commonality of living things, how we are bound by our shared experiences. The piece is based on a life model who combined a foreboding physical presence with an incredibly sensitive soul. The work is in no way a portrait, it’s a fictionalised account, a melding of the model’s personality with untruths suggested by his appearance. Consider it the beginning of a redemption story, a character study of someone stopped in their tracks by a dawning realisation.
The words we use with trees: limb; heartwood; trunk, are the language of bodies. The smell, warmth, weight, moisture, the sounds, are analogous with human flesh. They are heady and visceral. These sensory qualities heighten my relationship with the work and I see no reason to suppress this. I wish you to experience it. I love the qualities of wood when it is worked viciously- split, cleaved, dented and splintered, particularly alongside delicate sculpted forms. It’s a material of superb contrasts which can also be shaped with tenderness, revealing a very human vulnerability.
The piece was one of three major pieces carved for my touring exhibition, The Way of All Flesh. This sculpture in particular has captured the imagination of the audience, featuring in national and international press. He has travelled over 1000 miles between galleries, art fairs and project spaces in Edinburgh, Lancashire, Manchester, Wilmslow, West Yorkshire, Nottingham, Lincolnshire and Sheffield. “

Val Adamson: “African Triptych II was developed from three studies I sculpted of women from the African tribes Mangbetu, Fulani and Igbo. I was drawn to the wonderful sculptural forms in their hair and the huge importance of hair as a sign of status and divine communication. I combined the original studies with masks and art works from the same tribes to create the more elaborate ‘African Triptych II’. These pieces have now inspired further sculpts that combine an emotion in a face with an abstract form above that reflects that emotion.”
Mangbetu is also available as part of a ‘trio’ with sculpture ‘Fulani’ and ‘Igbo’ as seen below The price for the three pieces together is £2,650
Also available with Oak base for interior spaces (see below)
