Tom Hiscocks: “I created this life-sized version in the same proportions as the initial, smaller version which means she is made of 8mm sections with 8mm spaces – which means she is really heavy.
The corten rust means that she subtly sits in her outdoor setting – a classical form in a contemporary style.”

This piece was inspired by the 19th century sculpture by Italian master Adriano Cesioni, titled ‘Enfant auCoq’ (Child with Cockerel). This reinterpretation defines the struggle and desperation to hold onto that which we want and love, and the opposing struggle and desperation to escape the situation imposed upon us.
Through the medium of scrap and salvaged metal, life, character and emotions are beautifully captured in a moment in time, that pays tribute to the masters of old as well as demonstrating the possibilities of this contemporary medium. Each metal component goes through an intense heating process in the forge. It is then hammered and shaped before being welded in place. What sets Alans work apart, is that almost all the welding and methods of construction are internally hidden within the sculpture. This element creates a huge challenge when creating his pieces, to an almost counter intuitive way of working, but it gives his artworks a fluid and visual richness that is refined and unique.

The INTERCIDERE series The sculptures in this series all feature a ball held between 2 of 3 vertical shafts of stainless steel. Gravity demands it continue on a downward path but the stainless steel walls make that journey impossible. The prevent it sliding deeper. It can go no further. So it remains suspended between them. This creates a dichotomy between the gravitational force and the limitation of space. The ball is unable to slide to the base, but nor can it rise back up again.

Light-Bearer – Night Sky Crescendo Stainless steel and toughened glass Ht: 135 cms Retail Price £4,800 (inc VAT)
The LIGHT-BEARER series. Each sculpture contains a panel of toughened and laminated glass set in textured stainless steel that radiates light. The stand is symbolic of the currents that move around the Earth, while its bowl-shaped form gives reference to the crucibles used by glass makers or foundries. This is where the molten metals are formed; the place from which they emerge. Its edges contain the colours whilst at the same time it holds them up, presenting them to the viewer. The glass panels vary in size and pattern, all with vibrant colours that merge, swirl, and rise; their patterns moving like molten lava or the aurora in the northern skies. They embody movement and transition that can be both graceful and shocking. This is life in its raw, primal state: fluid, diverging, forming and reforming. Yet is is also a reflection of the world as we know it today: a symbol of modern life with all of its fierce complexities and gentle nuances.

Carse is made from vibrant recycled car panels that have been composed and shaped into form, creating the essence of a horse in motion. The use of this material acts as a homage to horses, as they were the first cars and way of life that transformed the world we know today. This piece aims to celebrate and comment on our human relationship with the horse and transportation itself.

Her childhood was spent in Africa and she has travelled extensively, both fuelling her appreciation and curiosity for the natural world. She also has a black belt in taekwondo, giving her an intimate understanding of movement which imbues her work with a dynamism, whether it’s a swooping bird, a dancer balancing en pointe, boxing hares or a sprinter in full flight.
