Poison Ivy is much misunderstood. She is on the side of nature, a great defender of plant life, but no eco-terrorist. Shy by nature, not that one would suspect it, here she waits patiently at
the party’s edge for an opportunity to deliver a message. Is it an invitation or a warning?

Calypso
In Greek mythology the nymph Calypso was exiled on the island of Ogygia by Zeus for supporting the defeated Titans in their war against the Olympian gods. According to Homer’s Odyssey on his journey home from the Trojan Wars Odysseus was shipwrecked and washed up on the shore of Ogygia where he was detained by the lonely Calypso for seven years. She fell deeply in love with him and promised him immortality to stay with her, but Odysseus could not bear being separated from his wife, Penelope His patron goddess Athena intervened and persuades Zeus to order Calypso to free Odysseus, which she bitterly agreed to. Calypso provided Odysseus with tools and wood to build a boat. While Athena set the wind behind his boat as he departs, Calypso stands proudly but sadly watching Odysseus’s boat sail away, contemplating what might have been.

Nearly every weld and methods of construction are concealed within the piece
Through the medium of scrap and salvaged metal, life, character and emotions are beautifully captured in a moment in time. Each metal component goes through an intense heating process in the forge. It is then hammered and shaped before being welded in place. What sets Alans work apart, is that almost all the welding and methods of construction are internally hidden within the sculpture. This element creates a huge challenge when creating his pieces, to an almost counter intuitive way of working, but it gives his artworks a fluid and visual richness that is refined and unique.

PORTAL represents a journey from photography to sculpture, as well as an an experiment in fusing two very different mediums. I photographed a farm house door in Japan. The yellow paint was peeling away in the wind. It felt like a haiku poem. I wanted to capture the feeling of transitioning from one world to another.

Hayley’s Inspiration came from a local archaeology dig of an old ridgeway where a buried horse was found which could have belonged to a person of importance, the kings horse maybe?

Despair. Created from the knotted crown of an ancient boundary oak, this piece was sourced locally to the artist in Dorset, left over after the tree was milled many years ago. Wanting to create a sculpture that conveys the utter hopelessness we may find ourselves in, the state of mind caused by circumstances that seem too much to cope with. Also the total loss of hope which at times can drive us on to make furious efforts. Even in the depths of deep despair often great courage and strength can be found. This unique sculpture is hand finished using a blend of natural oils and waxes allowing this piece to live on in the great outdoors if so desired.
Preservation and aftercare is of great importance and always offered.

Created using a single ring of burred oak, cut from an ancient tree in the heart of Dorset. This unique piece has been a labour of love created over a number of years. Working from A small hole in the centre and turning daily to create the abstract fluid forms. Revolver embraces the awkwardness of natural growth, Multiple burred pieces are intrinsically linked with a subtle internal spiral. Finished using a blend of natural waxes and oils allowing the piece to live on in the great outdoors if so desired.
Preservation and after care is of great importance and always offered.
