  • Hyperbolic III by Kim Francis – £7,850

Hyperbolic III by Kim Francis – £7,850

    Hyperbolic lll’
    60cm X 60cm X 60cm
    Kilkenny limestone
    Unique hand carved sculpture

‘Hyperbolic lll’ is part of a series exploring Hyperbolic planes. A concept I stumbled upon when i realised that the lobed forms I was making, also existed in the world of mathematicians as an expression of Hyperbolic planes. These describe what happens to parallel lines when they exist in three dimensions…
The beauty of these forms for me is not only the organic free form of the lobes but that the edge is always one continuous line.

  • Hijra by Kim Francis – £18,000

Hijra by Kim Francis – £18,000

    Hijra
    Kilkenny limestone
    200cm x 65cm x 50cm

‘Hijra’  Is an expression of an organic creature or entity, that is self contained, nourishing of itself. Receptive and penetrating. Both male and female.  ‘Hijra’ is a south asian word meaning not male and not female. It is also an islamic word meaning migration, which also appealed to me as the form is so bird like.

  • Winter Hare by Pippa Unwin – £1,200

Winter Hare by Pippa Unwin – £1,200

    Winter Hare – Alabaster

Alabaster is a soft, translucent stone that has been used for centuries to create beautiful works of art. Its smooth surface and delicate coloration make it a popular material for carving, and it has been used to create everything from sculptures to jewelry

    Pippa Unwin:
Winter Hare – Most winters, I take part in International Snow Carving Competitions as captain of the GB snow carving team. We have been to Breckenridge several times and been lucky enough to have seen some of the local wildlife – a fox, moose and a little Snow Hare. This white Alabaster with the traces of black reminded me of the hares, so I felt I had to carve one.

    Pippa Unwin:
Red Kite – I’ve often seen Red Kites searching for carrion above Salisbury Plain – they are beautiful birds on the wing and I wanted to try to show the elegance and grace of their flight.

  • Otters Playing by Pippa Unwin – £3,200

Otters Playing by Pippa Unwin – £3,200

    Otters playing –
    Alabaster, copper and Portland roach

This is a beautiful example of Alabaster and all of the colour and wonder it brings.

Alabaster is a soft, translucent stone that has been used for centuries to create beautiful works of art. Its smooth surface and delicate coloration make it a popular material for carving, and it has been used to create everything from sculptures to jewellery.

    Pippa Unwin
Otters Playing – I live in South Devon beside the river Avon which flows down to the sea near Burgh Island. The river is a marine reserve and we have a family of otters there. I love the grace of their movement in the water. They swim through the reeds, represented here by reclaimed beaten copper (I was pleased to find some with verdigris for perfect colouring!). The markings in the brown alabaster is really beautiful and slightly translucent – it evokes the light rippling through the water.
