Hijra
Kilkenny limestone
200cm x 65cm x 50cm
‘Hijra’ Is an expression of an organic creature or entity, that is self contained, nourishing of itself. Receptive and penetrating. Both male and female. ‘Hijra’ is a south asian word meaning not male and not female. It is also an islamic word meaning migration, which also appealed to me as the form is so bird like.
Kim Francis:
“I aim to explore viscerally and emotionally, the elegance, beauty and menace of the natural world, as I experience it, using evocative contrasts of material and texture.”
