Clare Bigger is a figurative sculptor who captures the spontaneity of movement in her work, using stainless steel to create contemporary, fluid forms and to bring a lightness and grace to her sculptures. She exhibits internationally, producing both private and public commissions featuring her two passions: sport and nature.

Her childhood was spent in Africa and she has travelled extensively, both fuelling her appreciation and curiosity for the natural world. She also has a black belt in taekwondo, giving her an intimate understanding of movement which imbues her work with a dynamism, whether it’s a swooping bird, a dancer balancing en pointe, boxing hares or a sprinter in full flight.

  • Stanley’s Shoes by Paul Pibworth – £19,200

    Stanley’s Shoes by Paul Pibworth – £19,200

    Sculpture name; “Stanley’s Shoes”

    Material; Stainless steel

    Edition; 1

    Size; Height: 175cm Width: 70cm Length 350cm

    Price £19,200.00

This sculpture takes its stance from a shire named Jacob as he leaned into his collar. He worked the farm at Wimpole Hall, Cambridgeshire. Sadly they lost Jacob in 2018, but very quickly found a stunning “strawberry roan” coloured shire who fitted in exactly by matching Jacob’s gentle temperament perfectly.
As I mentioned this sculpture has the stance of Jacob, it has “Stanley’s Shoes”.

Within my sculpture I like to add text, language and hidden messages; “Stanley’s Shoes”, made as a one off, uses text from a series of interviews with a number of people about rural living. In particular I had in depth conversations with a farm owner, a farmworker and a Horse-man or Hossman. These conversations, in a way have preserved a way of life which may soon be lost forever. However as a way of hiding these exchanges I totally broke them down and reassembled them randomly.

Making is in my blood, sometimes I just can’t stop myself. I take great joy in teasing and coaxing material into the shapes I want to see. I hope you Love them too.

Ripple by Richard Cresswell – £3,660

    Ripple

    Stainless steel,

    Edition 1 of 25,

    3 metres H x 2 x 2 wide

Ripple was created as a result of experiments trying to create a breaking wave, that experiment failed but the result was much better than I had hoped for. Ripple is the child of Wave which is a much larger sculpture requiring a large open space to install.

  • Walnut Leaf by Richard Cresswell – £4,950

Walnut Leaf by Richard Cresswell – £4,950

    Walnut leaf

    Stainless steel

    Edition 8 of 25

    2.4 metres H x 1.1 x .6

Walnut leaf came about after keeping a tiny leaf skeleton my daughter gave to me which I looked at from time to time, that leaf coupled with lying on my lawn in the autumn installing a sculpture and noticing all the leaves stood on end in the grass, why?
It seems earth worms drag leaves down their holes to use as a
food source in the winter. So a leaf skeleton stood on end and then I saw a leaf caught in a cobweb and how it moved so my sculpture also had to rotate moved by any gentle breeze.

  • Pebble Squared by Richard Cresswell – £2,400

Pebble Squared by Richard Cresswell – £2,400

    Pebble squared

    Aluminium

    10 of 20

    1.0 m h x 0.8 x 0.2

Pebble was originally created as a welding former for a sculpture which I never made! That welding jug became much more interesting to me. I couldn’t lift the sculpture as it was steel, so I then changed the material to Aluminium and made the piece two sided. when I started experimenting with colours the magic began to happen. After some experimenting, I found the red and blue combination which gave the beautiful transitions as you walk past the piece, this also portrayed purples.

  • The Storyteller by Pete Rogers – £1,900

The Storyteller by Pete Rogers – £1,900

    The storyteller

    Stainless steel

35 cm high (70 cm with log plinth.

The teller of the second tale is actually the second storyteller I have made. It is an open edition, but because the sculpture is hand (plasma) cut and hand built it is a very different shape with different face and gestures to the teller of the first tale. Since there are lots of stories to be told I guess there will be tellers of more tales. In my garden he was regaling to a crowd of hares. I think he would equally entertain a crowd of garden gnomes! Note all the little men I make have extraordinary long curved pointed shoes. I would love to see what their feet look like.

  • The Moon Polisher by Pete Rogers – £2,500

The Moon Polisher by Pete Rogers – £2,500

    The moon polisher

    Stainless steel

    1.5m high

    £2200

I have made several moon polishers of different sizes. There is not really an edition number as each is a bespoke design. The first was a request as a Christmas present by my partner Alex Hallowes, so I credit the design idea to her. On the back of this moon is a mouse eating cheese. A larger version had a dog chasing a mouse up the ladder behind the man. Of course it is only because of the hard work of the moon polisher during the day, that the moon, dull as dawn approaches, is ready to shine out again the next night. It is not well known, but the moon polisher has a brother who is a conker polisher. The little men I make have a funny hat and pointed curved shoes. I would love to see what their feet look like.
