Murmuration by Richard Cresswell – £3,950

    Murmuration

    1.7 h x 1.2 x 1.2

I have been mesmerised by starlings as they collect together in the evenings just at dusk creating their beautiful shapes in the sky. They  try to stay together for safety as a predator finds it much more difficult to attack a Murmuration than a single bird. At the slightest breeze the ‘murms’ wander around following tiny air currents then as the winds increase become more regimented all changing direction in unison like a flock of starlings. the tree or bush form was the obvious shape for the piece right from the first day and each has its own style and character as I create a new piece.
I always make a few ‘murms’ touch so that they ‘talk’ to each other as the wind moves them adding a further element to the piece.
I have made larger versions for clients but the Bush proves to be a perfect shape and size for a garden setting.

  • Parasol by Richard Cresswell – £3,950

Parasol by Richard Cresswell – £3,950

    Parasol

    2.1m x 1.2m x 1.2m

As the title suggests this sculpture is inspired by those Edwardian ladies strolling through parks and gardens with incredibly long-handled parasols with their delicate lace fringes, twirling them as they chat to friends and lovers.
After perfecting the parasol to look beautiful and delicate, able to move in the lightest of airs, I hit upon the form of a surreal delicate tree to support them.
Further research and I find that they were originally Chinese or Japanese the jury is still debating which, but it seems they were originally green paper and slowly developed an important part of their culture later becoming red. For this reason I gave the stem a black finish with a mist of red over it.

  • Spitfire by Richard Cresswell – £18,000

Spitfire by Richard Cresswell – £18,000

    Spitfire

    £18,000

    3.4 h x 2.2 x 0.2

My love affair with the shape of Spitfire started many years ago when as a teenager I used to go to air displays.
There would always be a Spitfire there and when it took to the skies the pilot would always make a few low passes with the plane seemingly standing on a wing tip as it carved an ark in the sky showing the elliptical outline of the wing against a cloudless sky making it the most beautiful flying machine I ever saw. That shape has stayed with me ever since and it is that shape which now as a sculptor I can interpret into Spitfire.
As the pilots did standing the plane on a wing tip to display it, I also do the profile changing as the wind turns the work to face a different direction. The fuselage is a sleek aerodynamic shape to add context to the piece and the mirror polished metal is my nod to the original design when it was a racing seaplane designed to win the Schneider Trophy.

Quill by Richard Cresswell – £2,950

    Quill

    £2950

    3.1 h x 0.6 x 0.05

Quill is a piece which came out of my experiments to create a kinetic sculpture which makes the invisible wind and air currents visible, by being independently pivoted each vane can follow the tiny differences in strength and direction of a breeze as it passes by touching the metal and creating beautiful curves and ripples in the shape.

  • Active Surface by Andrew Lee – £2,900lee

Active Surface by Andrew Lee – £2,900lee

“Active Surface” by Andrew Lee – £2900

Sixty-six stainless steel ‘Flags’, each 100 x 75mm, together reveal the beauty of the invisible wind as it pulses across the sculpture. The structure is meticulously engineered so the gentlest puff of a breeze will register.

Stainless steel top frame 170 cm x 73 cm. Support stand 170 cm high from powder-coated mild steel.

Wire, clips and springs all from stainless steel.

    Edition: Unique.

Price: £2,900. Ground Fixings extra £75.

Behind all my wind sculptures is the desire to give the viewer a true depiction of the wind’s qualities.

I favour a geometric and anonymous appearance to my work so allowing the wind itself to become the ‘object’ of beauty. Unlike my stand-alone sculptures in the past, here I have opted for a two- dimensional format of considerable width so the wind can be seen to travel in waves across the surface.

    High Jump

    stainless steel

    3⁄4 lifesize figure
    2.7m high

    £10000

Clare Bigger is a figurative sculptor who captures the spontaneity of movement in her work, using stainless steel to create contemporary, fluid forms and to bring a lightness and grace to her sculptures. She exhibits internationally, producing both private and public commissions featuring her two passions: sport and nature.

Her childhood was spent in Africa and she has travelled extensively, both fuelling her appreciation and curiosity for the natural world. She also has a black belt in taekwondo, giving her an intimate understanding of movement which imbues her work with a dynamism, whether it’s a swooping bird, a dancer balancing en pointe, boxing hares or a sprinter in full flight.

    Stanley’s Shoes by Paul Pibworth – £19,200

    Sculpture name; “Stanley’s Shoes”

    Material; Stainless steel

    Edition; 1

    Size; Height: 175cm Width: 70cm Length 350cm

    Price £19,200.00

This sculpture takes its stance from a shire named Jacob as he leaned into his collar. He worked the farm at Wimpole Hall, Cambridgeshire. Sadly they lost Jacob in 2018, but very quickly found a stunning “strawberry roan” coloured shire who fitted in exactly by matching Jacob’s gentle temperament perfectly.
As I mentioned this sculpture has the stance of Jacob, it has “Stanley’s Shoes”.

Within my sculpture I like to add text, language and hidden messages; “Stanley’s Shoes”, made as a one off, uses text from a series of interviews with a number of people about rural living. In particular I had in depth conversations with a farm owner, a farmworker and a Horse-man or Hossman. These conversations, in a way have preserved a way of life which may soon be lost forever. However as a way of hiding these exchanges I totally broke them down and reassembled them randomly.

Making is in my blood, sometimes I just can’t stop myself. I take great joy in teasing and coaxing material into the shapes I want to see. I hope you Love them too.

Ripple by Richard Cresswell – £3,660

    Ripple

    Stainless steel,

    Edition 1 of 25,

    3 metres H x 2 x 2 wide

Ripple was created as a result of experiments trying to create a breaking wave, that experiment failed but the result was much better than I had hoped for. Ripple is the child of Wave which is a much larger sculpture requiring a large open space to install.
