There seems to be a constant narrative in the mind. An incessant chitter chatter like machines. Time spent worrying about the future or reflecting on the past. Rather than focusing on the present moment which after all, is the only moment that truly exists other than in our minds.
This sculpture was made from the parts of time pieces and is meant to represent time wasted on our ‘internal dialogue’ at the expense of focusing on the present moment.

“pain is the shell of our knowledge and understanding. Just as the stone of the fruit must break for it’s heart to stand in the sun, so must we experience pain”
– Kahlil Gibran
This sculpture was shortlisted for the Ashurst Emerging Artist Award in 2019.

(At Berkeley Square)
Feature in Artist and Illustrators magazine.
The sculpture has been patinated white using titanium dioxide and bismuth nitrate (a recipe from obtained from Rungwe Kingdom of Pangolin). The same patina was used on Elizabeth Frank’s ‘Desert Heads’. Being white and slightly larger than life size add to an ‘other worldly’ or dreamlike quality.

“Ligaya is the word for “joy” in the Philippine language. The sculpture portrays a figure that is rapt with joy: a lightness of being, a heart full of gratitude in knowing you are loved. The folds of the cloth in the sculpture have been gilt in yellow (gold), the colour associated with joy.”

Small Bronze Bust, Cold Cast Bronze (bronze resin) white patina
Small Bronze Bust
A celebrated small work by Ed Elliott that perfectly captures the energy and his development of a specific traditional Japanese Art of wood preservation. His dedication and practice of this process has created a visual language through a prolific body of work, opening the door to our familiarity and attraction to the organic material of wood.
Celebrating the imperfections and vulnerability of wood, there are a selection of wooden originals that have been meticulously cast into bronze, creating a paradox between the impermanence of wood and the permanence of bronze. Also see the piece ‘Resilience’ in the Ed Elliott Bronze Collection.
