Three figures dancing. As within a drawing, this work explores the use of minimal line and detail. A process of hand hewing the timber accentuates the natural form of the oak, then constructed to create figurative character and movement.

“The long legged man eventually gave in to the long dog’s insistant whimpering and repeatedly picking up and dropping a totally licked out bone. Off they went to the butcher and here they are zooming back, dog holding the bone, no room in the basket for it, but also a pretaste of the lickchew bliss to come. Question ‘How does dog get in the basket?’

Stainless steel with heat patinated stainless steel
H 138 x W 100 x D 125 Frame on ground Spikes provided.
The sunset surfer is hand fabricated from stainless steel. To make the sinuous wave shape more interesting, it is heavily textured with grooves and scuffs and then heat patinated. The heat patination process creates metallic oxides on the surface of the metal. Stainless steel, like iron, creates several oxides, where it combines with increasing numbers of oxygen atoms, to give straw, magenta, blue and red colours. These colours occur because the oxide thickness is the same as the light wavelength of the particular spectrum colour.
This colouration is permanent and can survive outdoors but DO NOT RUB OR USE ANY CLEANING agents as it is only a molecule thick. The deep grooving makes different thicknesses in the metal which encourages the temperature differences to get the variety of colours.

Rose Inspired by the oldest evidence of the rose from legends and poetry in Ancient Greece, where they dedicated the rose to the gods. One rose legend which particularly inspired me was around Flora, the Goddess of Spring and Flowers.

Stacey: “I’ve never lived far from the sea as I find it hard to settle inland, and the Atlantic Coast near my workshop in North Cornwall is a constant source of inspiration. This work evokes clear summer evenings spent spinning the flood tides for bass off Bude’s iconic Breakwater, or swimming in Tommy’s Pit, the tidal pool at the end of the breakwater.”

Jeremy Moulsdale: My inspiration comes from the moments in life when my soul is touched and my spirit soars. Often simple moments, when I see the moon in the clear night sky or get lifted on the wings of a passing bird. My creative heart is stirred when I feel a sweet reverence for life. I try to listen to the advice of Robert Henri who said “The object isn’t to make art, but to be in that wonderful space that makes art inevitable”.
