    Lucianne:
‘The Three Miss Graces’- Miss Aligned, Miss Chief and Miss Fit are girls with street savvy and won’t take any Sh*t from no one. These girls are a contemporary interpretation of The Three Graces in Greek mythology. The ancient Three Graces have been represented in painting and sculpture as the embodiment of joy, radiance and blossoming. The Miss Graces I have created here also embody these attributes but in a self confident, powerful and challenging way, that is more akin to the attitudes and aspirations of many women in the present day.

  • Fragile Strength by Glen Ferrelly – £1,995

Fragile Strength by Glen Ferrelly – £1,995

Fragile Strength, 2024, Storm Fallen Alder, Yakisugi Technique, Cold pressed Linseed Oil, 155cm high

This wonderful wood has been traditionally used to make boats as it has an amazing ability to withstand water. As with many trees in Britain, it is at risk from our human activity, encroaching on greenbelts, tree clearing for building, our impact on the enviroment gives these incredible trees a fragile strength.

I work with reclaimed and storm fallen timber using an ancient Japanese technique called Yakisugi. This method preserves the wood – Yaki means to heat with fire, and sugi is cypress. By slightly charring the surface of the wood without combusting the whole piece, the wood becomes waterproof through the carbonisation and is thus more durable. It also protects against insects, as well as making the wood fire retardant. All my work aims to be as sustainable as possible and I will only use natural materials.

  • Sacred by Glen Farrelly – £2,295

Sacred by Glen Farrelly – £2,295

Sacred, 2024, Oak, Yakisugi Technique, Linseed Oil, 215cm high.

Druids believed that oak trees were sacred and directly from heaven. They performed religious rituals under them, climbed them to collect their leaves and fruits to use in medicines, and believed these trees harbored significant healing powers.

I work with reclaimed and storm fallen timber using an ancient Japanese technique called ‘Yakisugi’. This method preserves the wood – Yaki means to heat with fire, and sugi is cypress. By slightly charring the surface of the wood without combusting the whole piece, the wood becomes waterproof through the carbonisation and is thus more durable. • The Mere by Glen Farrelly – £1,995

The Mere by Glen Farrelly – £1,995

The Mere, 2023, 200cm high, storm fallen Chestnut, fire and cold pressed linseed oil. I collected this part of a beautiful tree from The Mere, in Ellesmere that is about a mile from my house. The Mere has many myths and Legends attached to it but I quite like this one: According to Charlotte Burn who recorded many folklore stories throughout Shropshire in the nineteenth century, an old woman named Mrs Ellis had a water pump on her property, she refused to sell or allow any of her neighbours the use of the pump to gather water, thus creating great hardship. One night it is said that the well overflowed and the following morning no sign of the pump or the old woman could be found, all that could be seen was the huge lake named after her Elles-mere.
