THE SHOW

No Wifi. No Xbox. And water from a well?! This definitely isn’t normal.

Bobbie (that’s me), Peter & Phyllis (ow! Stop pinching me), I mean Phil, have been swept off to the English countryside by our Mom, who is suddenly far too busy to play with us.

Left to explore our new home, (if you can call it that), it’s not long before the railway calls from the bottom of the garden. As we follow the tracks to the local station, we discover a whole new world with some slightly strange characters, romance (stop retching, Peter), peril and questions that definitely need answering…

What to get Mr Perks for his birthday when we can’t even afford sweets?

Why is the 08.11 always late?

Who is stealing from the abandoned coal yard at night time?

And where has Dad gone anyway?

Come join us as we tell our story, our way.

Fresh from their 2025 tour of The Wind in the Willows and The Wizard of Oz, Paperback Theatre returns to tour the UK with Charis McRoberts’ brand new adaptation of E. Nesbit’s classic The Railway Children

THE TROUPE

We’re Paperback, a theatre company from Birmingham run by Lucy and George.

We produce plays. We’re fascinated by the stories we tell each other now, those we choose to remember and why it is we keep telling them over and over again.

We’ve created a range of productions, from outdoor family shows, to black-box fringe style plays, to community productions. Our work is unified by its fast pace, witty energy and un-patronising approach to engaging and challenging audiences. We would love to continue making work with and for our local community, and to be able to take our plays to national theatres.

THE STAGE

Our amphitheatre is nestled into the heart of the sculpture park, surrounded by nature and artwork. Hand built out of local Cotswold stone, this really is one of the most unique venues to enjoy some traditional English open-air theatre.

The amphitheatre itself provides the seating. We do also have cushions available to sit on. Please feel free to bring your own cushions and blankets for additional comfort.

Please do not bring your own seating, as this can block the view of those sitting behind you.

If you have additional needs and will need to bring your own seating, please contact us on bookings@cotswoldsculpturepark.co.uk

FOOD & DRINK

The Poppin tearoom will be open and serving up delicious hot food for those who would like to enjoy a meal before the show begins. We will also have a bar onsite so that you can enjoy the show with a drink.

We kindly ask that you refrain from bringing your own picnics and drinks with you.

THE WEATHER

As we all know, the English summer weather can be unpredictable. In accordance with open-air theatre traditions, the show will go on rain or shine! Please check the weather forecast before the show and make sure you dress appropriately.

In the case of heavy showers, we do have an undercover area next to the amphitheatre, where we can wait for the rain to pass and the show can commence again.

In the case of extremely bad weather, the venue may be changed to Oaksey Golf Course, 6 miles down the road, where they have kindly allowed us the use of their events marquee.

All audience members will be updated regarding the weather ahead of time.
