Wooden Original, unique one-off – White Patina

Sphere made by hand and eye with no measuring equipment

    Approx 80cm sphere

Carved from Wellingtonia wood, Vessel is a striking spherical form that celebrates the natural beauty and history of the material. The flowing grain patterns ripple across the surface like contour lines, revealing the life of the tree within the sculpture. Carefully carved openings and a central hollow create a sense of depth and balance, inviting light and shadow to move through the piece.

Finished using the traditional Yakisugi charring technique and a pale lime patina, the work highlights the wood’s rich textures while preserving and strengthening its surface. Both architectural and organic, the sculpture explores ideas of containment, space, and the quiet power of natural form.

This striking bust explores the relationship between the human form and the natural patterns found in wood. The figure’s face and body are carved with flowing, ring-like lines that echo the growth patterns of a tree, transforming the surface into a map of time and nature. Finished with a subtle green patina, the sculpture emphasises the organic textures and gives the piece a quiet, contemplative presence.

Both human and elemental, the work blurs the boundary between figure and landscape, inviting viewers to reflect on the deep connection between people, nature, and the passage of time.
