Blue lias from this part of the world is extremely hard and very difficult to sculpt – It’s actually classed as almost impossible for sculptures due to the fact it chips so easily and will literally destroy chisels at an alarming rate!
But it is a fantastic building material that has literally been used for thousands of years!
Being a restoration stonemason in South Wales and working with this beautiful stone has taught me a lot about the material and has helped me adapt my techniques to be able to work with this wonderful material!
Each octopus is a massive challenge mentally and physically!
but one I always enjoy and look forward to seeing come together.”
