(Netty) Medium octopus carved in 2022
30cm tall
1 of 1 and hand carved from a single piece of blue lias limestone from South Wales.
Blue lias from this part of the world is extremely hard and very difficult to sculpt
It’s actually classed as almost impossible for sculptures due to the fact it chips so easily and will literally destroy chisels at a alarming rate!
But it is a fantastic building material that has literally been used for thousands of years!
Being a restoration stonemason in South Wales and working with this beautiful stone has taught me a lot about the material and has helped me adapt my techniques to be able to work with this wonderful material!
Each octopus is a massive challenge mentally and physically!
but one I always enjoy and look forward to seeing come together.
