Duyan: Cradle
Edition of 10 in bronze resin on an oak base
Duyan is an interpretation of a Philippine lullaby, Sa Ugoy ng Duyan, the music of which was composed by Lucio San Pedro who drew inspiration from the melody his mother hummed to lull her young children to sleep.
Following is an English translation of the lyrics:
The Sway of the Cradle
English translation by Lillyan Corpuz
May my memories of olden days never fade,
of times I was but a small child in the arms of Mother.
I yearn to hear again my beloved Mother’s lullaby,
her song of love as she lulled me in the cradle.
In the silence of my deep peaceful slumber,
the stars hold vigil to guard and watch over me.
In my Mother’s embrace, life is heaven.
My suffering heart desires the sway of the cradle.
How I long to sleep in my old cradle, Mother.
Oh! Mother
