About the sculpture
The Conference Pear is one of a number of fruits that I have made over the past 15 years, and their constructions all call on the womanly skill of patch-making. They are all stictched together using cast off bits of plate leftover from other work, and once put together the welds are left obvious as part of the surface pattern, undisguised as a complete surface. This Pear (like a number of the Apples) has smalti glass mosaic inlaid into the surface to add some bright integral colour.
Stainless steel and smalti glass mosaic insets standing on a heavy steel base which can be dug in to the ground leaving the Pear just floating above ground level.
Pear: 1650mm high x 800 x 600mm
Base and plinth 200mm high base plate 1200mm diameter
