“Ever since observing recently orphaned cheetah cubs Toki and Sambu on one of my first visits to Lewa Wildlife conservancy in Kenya, cheetah have been a favourite subject of mine. I sculpted my first head in 1997 out of African beeswax.
With my 2023 studies of lion, leopard and cheetah heads I have sculpted each to the same scale. When seen as a trio or a pair, you can really get an idea of the size differences between them. I wanted people to be able to see the individual species evolution and how they have honed skill sets to become the very different predators they are.” – Hamish MacKie
