Kingfisher with a fishy on reeds.

Rich Bindon on the story behind this sculpture:
“My late father owned an engineering business for 40+ years, due to the recession in the early 1980’s he had some free time on his hands so decided to make himself a 70ft narrow boat. It was called ‘The Iron Maiden’, in reference to Maggie Thatcher. My Dad had been an electrician in the merchant navy in his younger years, I believe he still had ambitions to captain his own boat!
After 4 years ‘The Iron Maiden’ was completed. it was moored on the canal at Thrupp, Oxfordshire.

We had many family holidays and weekends away cruising the canals and the Thames during the summer. In the evenings after tea I would sit on the roof of the boat fishing for perch and It was not uncommon to see kingfishers patrolling the canal banks, occasionally they would be brave enough to share my fishing spot which was amazing. I will always remember these times fondly, hence my love of the kingfisher.”

Rich Bindon on why he created this sculpture:
“My Grandmother used to live next door to us in Wootton Bassett, her garden was huge and contained chicken coops, a greenhouse and a large unused shed which contained rusty Victorian gardening tools, anvils, tin baths etc. It was completely overgrown inside with vines, ivy and cobwebs.
The whole garden was great to explore, A resident Robin (who lived in the ivy filled shed) was always hopping around and I would watch him perch on a fork or spade to oversee my Grandmother at work in the garden.”
