Tendai Rukodzi was born in 1973 in Guruve where he did his primary and secondary education. While still at school in 1990, he started his sculpting career by helping his brother Edronce Rukodzi. After completing his ‘O’ levels in 1992, he started sculpting his own works. He produced his first works in 1993 at Tengenenge. In 1995 he moved to Harare where he worked alongside Joe Mutasa and Ray Chirambadare. From then on his works were sold in galleries such as Chapungu, National Gallery, Stone Dynamics, Pierre Gallery and Ramambo Gallery. In 1999 he rejoined Tengenenge where he has been one of the best selling artists and has been able to sell to art collectors from around the world. His works have been exhibited in more than twelve different galleries in the Netherlands. His works have also been exhibited in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Portugal, Belgium and France. From 2000 to the present day, his works have traveled as far as Korea, Israel, Malaysia, Japan and China.

This piece is based upon the story of the lady of ill repute who anoints the feet of Jesus. You can see his foot under her hair. In those times letting your hair down was considered unacceptable and the nearest equivalent today is being naked. She represents every woman who feels exploited or down trodden but Jesus accepted her and said her story would be remembered for all time.
