    The idea for the third piece of sculpture in this ‘Spark’ series came when looking at sparks caused by fireworks as with the second piece in the series. This sculpture is more like an explosion of light. Nicola used another patination effect as a contrast to the other two pieces.

    Vol d’Etincelle II (Spark II)

    This piece of bronze sculpture, the second in the ‘Spark’ series, came from another image Nicola found of a flash of light; a firework shooting up into the sky.  Experimenting with patination colours on the artwork resulted in this unusual effect in blue which reflects the intense blue of a flame.

    Vol d’Etincelle I (Spark I)

    The ideas for this piece of sculpture and the other two in the ‘Spark’ series came from seeing pictures of sparks of light. Nicola experimented with the idea of having the human form as part of the light. The patination colour on the bronze suggests the heat and light that sparks of fire create. Nicola loves the idea of the figure bursting forward in a flash of energy.

    Icarus V

    This sculpture is shown here in two different patination colours.  It is the smallest of the Icarus bronze sculptures. This bronze is depicting the mythological boy, Icarus, about to leap off into the unknown! His wings are attached by wax and created by his father Daedalus so that the two of them can escape from Crete and King Minos. This contemporary piece of art is suitable for interiors in this size. A larger sized version would be available as a commission.The nature of bronze casting makes each one of the limited edition of 9 slightly different. Patination colours can be varied.

    Icarus Rising VIII

    Icarus is depicted here soaring into the sky- full of hope and joy. It is a symbol of freedom. Icarus and his father Daedalus have learnt to fly and are escaping their captor King Minos of Crete.Icarus loves flying so much that he forgets Daedalus’s warning and flies too close to the heat of the sun so that the wax holding the wings onto his body melt away and he falls to the sea.

      • Background – The very first sculpture I ever produced in October 2017, Inspired by lazy days sat with my horses while they were grazing the grass around me. I have always found this time so special to be at one with my horses while they ate grazing, I find an instant calmness with them in this busy world, listening to them eat the grass – One of my most favourite past times.
