Crouch With this sculpture I wanted to convey points in our lives when we are defeated. This is shown in the pose of the figure falling to his knee and protecting himself, as he gathers his strength to rise again.

Mother Inspired to carve a female figure emerging from this timber, looking strong and towards the sky, drinking in the sunlight similar to the tree she came from. The child was not in my original design but evolved as I carved the wood and seemed fitting to evoke thoughts of the next generation. The highlighted rings of the tree shows us the years of life that have passed. I wanted the sculpture and the name to be open to interpretation, some see motherhood for example, others see Mother Nature.

About this sculpture This piece of sculpture is the most realistic of the three large bronze torsos in ‘Metamorphosis’, part of the ‘Eve’ series. This artwork is life sized and is 68 cm tall. It is on exhibition now and available for sale as a garden or exterior bronze.
About the Artist I have been producing sculpture in bronze for over 30 years. Large projects included ‘Icarus’ for the London 2012 Olympic Village, the ‘Sir Peter Scott’ sculpture in bronze for London Wildfowl and Wetlands Centre and Hammersmith Man for the Hammersmith fly-over. My artwork is nearly always based on the human figure whether in an abstract from or in a realistic way. As A sculptor I have always wanted to work from the human form because of the feelings and emotions it conveys; there is usually a story behind every piece.

About the sculpture The idea for this piece of sculpture came from a very small piece of flint I found that looked to me something like a female torso. This bronze artwork is 72 cm tall, it is a life sized torso, and is one of a small edition of 9 although each edition number is unique in colour. I like to patinate ( colour) each new bronze differently so that they are all unique. This piece of sculpture is part of the ‘Eve’ series- there are 5 bronzes in this particular series.

About the artist Teresa Wells MRSS creates emotive figurative sculptures in bronze, that celebrate man’s physical and emotional survival over adversity. Inspired by the question “How do Humans Behave?” she draws inspiration from the contours of athletes and ballet dancers to emphasise a physical strength, placing them in precarious poses to stress fragility. She employs an illustrative style that pertains to theatrical gesturing, with particular attention made in re-creating detail in the face, hands and feet. This creates a powerful and spiritual force, producing reflection on one’s own psyche. When combined with geometric architectural supports, in steel, bronze and stone, she shows a contemporary approach to bronze, lifting it off the plinth and making it appear less monumental and traditional. Teresa is a multi award winning member of The Royal Society of Sculptors, and has had work commissioned by the BBC and Netflix amongst others. She is available for public and private commissions, interiors, landscape and garden sculpture.
