Ben Chinn is a Herefordshire based Artist & Sculptor, creating under the name of Spoken With Sculpture. Combining several carefully tailored techniques, the natural material willow is his medium of choice for weaving an imaginative array of figurative sculptures. When sculpting, each willow rod is mindfully selected and woven into place to collaboratively achieve a truly unique piece. No two sculptures are ever the same.
A recurrent theme among Ben’s sculptures is a particular emphasis being placed on gesture and movement, with him striving to push their boundaries. “The anatomical beauty of humans and animals really fascinates me. This along with my love of capturing emotion through movement, often sets the scene with the majority of my sculptures. Having a foundational element of depth is also something which I try to incorporate as well.”
Fantasy, Mythology, Nature, Philosophy & Psychology all play influential roles in motivating and inspiring Ben during his creative process. Mental health related topics are also of great importance with him subtly weaving related messages into some of his pieces. Subliminal is Ben’s new series of figurative sculpture which encompasses several of these elements, whilst also exploring the relationship between time and the way it can impact our experiences.
