    This sculpture came from a combination of Nicola’s interest in mythology and Venetian Masks. This is the first of an ongoing series.

    It is pictured here in bronze, cold cast resin and rusted iron finish. Nicola hopes to experiment with many other finishes.

    The sculpture is about 4 times life size and stands at 204 cm high and is 61 cm wide. The face alone is 80 cm long. The artwork is on a plinth made from sleepers which has a slate base.

    Each one of the limited edition is handmade and if not immediately available can be produced within a few months. Each one will be slightly different as is the nature of handmade sculpture. It is made in England.

    This Man and Woman are more concerned with their relationship, rather than looking out into the world; they glance at each other for mutual recognition and reassurance, and commune with each other without words.

    Though I emphasise their equal size, status and similar nature, they are looking for a subtle form of leadership within their bond.

    I created this abstract head sculpture as a female counterpart to join the “Racer Man”, creating the archetypal couple. She appears dignified, gentle, even queen-like.

    The wave-like hair expands up and outward from the narrow nostrils up the nose bridge into eyebrows and windblown hair, abstracted into a softy undulating convex/concave form.

     A peregrine in the stoop or dive for which it is renowned.

    Clare Bigger is a figurative sculptor who captures the spontaneity of movement in her work, using stainless steel to create contemporary, fluid forms and to bring a lightness and grace to her sculptures. She exhibits internationally, producing both private and public commissions featuring her two passions: sport and nature.

    Her childhood was spent in Africa and she has travelled extensively, both fuelling her appreciation and curiosity for the natural world. She also has a black belt in taekwondo, giving her an intimate understanding of movement which imbues her work with a dynamism, whether it’s a swooping bird, a dancer balancing en pointe, boxing hares or a sprinter in full flight.

    Relearning To Fly was made after the death of my mother. In a state of numbness, I made several drawings and paintings without thinking first of what I wanted to make/see as an end result. These outpourings were abstract and I saw this figure begin to emerge. I decided to render it in 3 dimensions. I was finding my feet again.
